OUR FOUNDER - SRI MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI DEVI (AMMA)

Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, a world renowned spiritual leader, humanitarian and visionary known throughout the world simply as Amma (ammā, “Mother”), has compassionately served the world for decades imparting wisdom, strength and inspiration.

Through Her extraordinary acts of Love, Inner Strength and Self-Sacrifice, Amma has endeared herself to millions and inspired thousands to follow in her path of selfless service. The entire life of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) has been dedicated to education. As a jagad-guru - a world teacher - Mata Amritanandamayi’s every action and every word are for the education of humankind, providing spiritual wisdom and moral guidance.

Amma is truly a citizen of the world. She holds free public programmes throughout India, Europe, United States, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Africa and South America. In her talks, Amma offers words of wisdom and guidance on both personal fulfilment as well as on the most pressing matters of our time. From issues such as climate change, terrorism, cross-cultural tensions, poverty, and women's rights, Amma's observations invite each of us to get involved in the process of rebuilding a concerned and caring society.

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI MATH (M.A MATH)

Amrita Institutions, Nagercoil is run by Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MA Math), Kollam. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) (Sanskrit: माता अमृतानन्दमयी मठ्, Malayalam: മാതാ അമൃതാനന്ദമയീ മഠ്) is an international charitable organization aimed at the spiritual and material upliftment of humankind. It was founded by spiritual leader and humanitarian Mata Amritanandamayi in 1981, with its headquarters in Paryakadavu, Alappad Panchayat, Kollam district, Kerala. Along with its sister organization, the Mata Amritanandamayi Mission Trust, MAM conducts charitable work including disaster relief, healthcare for the poor, environmental programs, fighting hunger, and scholarships for impoverished students, amongst others.

Mata Amritanandamayi Math is the ashram in Amritapuri. Nestled on a peninsula between the Arabian Sea and Kerala's famous backwater, is the Amritapuri Ashram. The Amritapuri ashram is home to more than 3,000 residents, including monks, other renunciants and householder devotees. Inspired by the example of Amma's life, the ashramites have dedicated their lives to spiritual practices and social service. At the ashram, they are instructed by Amma herself and are involved in regular classes on meditation, yoga, Sanskrit and Vedanta. People make the pilgrimage to MAM every day in order to receive the blessings of Mata Amritanandamayi.

MAM, along with Amritanandamayi's other centers and organizations throughout the world function collectively under the umbrella title of Embracing the World.

Today Mata Amritanandamayi Math has many educational institutions across the country. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a deemed University, which has six campuses in different states. The main campus of the university is in Coimbatore and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Health Science Campus is in Kochi. There are other campuses in Kollam, Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore and Chennai. Amritavidyalayams are schools under Mata Amritanandamayi Mission. Today, there are more than 60 Amritavidyalayams schools throughout the country, with Mata Amritanandamayi serving as the guiding light of the teachers, faculty and students.

Amrita Institution, Nagercoil campus houses the following Institutions: Amrita College of Engineering and Technology (ACET), Amrita Polytechnic College (APC) Amrita and College of Education.
