Higher Education Cell

The goal of this cell is to prepare students for higher education opportunities both nationally and internationally. Accordingly, the Department offers "Guidance" through Lectures by eminent personalities to help the students select the best option regarding the Subjects, Courses, and Universities for Higher Studies, both in India and overseas. This Cell identifies the Skills and abilities of the Students for Higher Studies. This is a well-organized support system for those who want to pursue higher education. The Higher Education Cell works closely with Training & Placement Cell.

Higher Studies Exams

GATE
Why GATE?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India test authorized and managed in eight regions across the nation. The exam is conducted by the GATE Committee, faculty members from IISc, and seven other IITs on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board, and Department of Education. The purpose of the GATE exam is to test students' knowledge in subjects like Engineering and Science. A valid GATE score is essential for obtaining financial assistance during Master's programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science in Institutes (IITs/IISc) supported by the MHRD or other Government agencies. The GATE scorecard is also used by multiple PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) to recruit applicants for distinguished jobs at Indian Oil, GAIL and Hindustan Petroleum, etc.

CAT

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is India’s most prestigious national level entrance examination. CAT is a computer based test for selecting students for the business administration programs at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) conduct this Common Admission Test on a rotational basis. Non-IIM Member Institutions are also using CAT Scores for their admissions.

XAT

XAT exam full form is Xavier Aptitude Test and the exam is one of the largest MBA Entrance Exams for Admission to XLRI, IMT, XIMB, TAPMI and 160+ MBA Colleges in India. Every year more than 1,00,000 candidates from all disciplines including Engineering, Commerce, Humanities, Science, Law apply and appear in this exam to get into the various MBA programs offered by these top B-schools. XLRI conducts XAT exam on behalf of XAMI. For more than 70 years XLRI is conducting this exam at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. XLRI will offer admission to its PGDM programs offered in Jamshedpur and Delhi campuses on the basis of XAT exam score only and will not accept any other test score

MAT

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standardised test being administered since 1988 to facilitate Business Schools (B-Schools) to screen candidates for admission to MBA and allied programmes. Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD approved MAT as a national level test in 2003. MAT is an objective test, designed to measure the candidate's general aptitudes in language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and sufficiency, intelligence and critical reasoning, Indian and global environment. MAT is usually conducted four times in a year. The exams will be generally scheduled in the month of February, May, September, and December. MAT is conducted in all major cities across the country and sometimes also in leading cities abroad.

GRE

Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is conducted by Anna University for M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan., MBA and MCA programmes in University Departments of Anna University, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) in the United States. The GRE exam measures your command of basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis as well as college-level vocabulary. More importantly, it measures your ability to analyse and evaluate written material, think critically, and solve problems.

TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL is a standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. The TOEFL test is usually conducted in the form of an online test, but if the test centre does not have an internet connection then a paper-based test can be offered. The test is often taken by students who are planning to study at a university abroad and scholarship candidates, along with students and workers who are applying for visas and English-language learners tracking their English progress. Keep an eye out on the requirements for university courses, as it will be stated there whether you are required to take the TOEFL and the minimum grade required to apply for the course.

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language. This includes countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Your ability to listen, read, write and speak in English will be assessed during the test. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English. The higher you can score in your IELTS, reflects a better understanding and ability to communicate in English. Each immigration body, university, workplace or institution will have specific IELTS score requirements. The score you need will depend on what you are looking to do in the country, i.e work or study.

GMAT

The GMAT exam - created by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the global non-profit council of business schools - sets the standard for its ability to predict success in the classroom. The GMAT exam is designed to test skills that are highly important to business and management programs. It assesses analytical writing and problem-solving abilities, along with the data sufficiency, logic, and critical reasoning skills that are vital to real-world business and management success. Accepted by more than 6,000 business and management programs worldwide, for nearly 60 years, the GMAT exam has been the test of choice by the world's business leaders to get into the world's leading business schools.
